The ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic has forced PlayOnside to rethink, readapt and readjust our program, adapted to the continuously changing regulations and needs of the local communities we work with.
As regular education at the migrant learning centers are postponed for the foreseeable future, PlayOnside is focusing on the collaborative home-based learning program together with other local educational partners. The influx consequences of the pandemic are not only affecting the education of the migrant children, but also the income, mobility and the safety within the migrant communities. A support from UNESCO to face these challenges are therefore very welcome. UNESCO – Bangkok is financing parts of the PlayOnside Emotional Resilience Program for migrant children and youth.
As schools are closed, a virtual learning environment (VLE) is one potential substitute. However, there are challenges related to access to internet for most migrant children, we need to find other ways to provide, and VLE is thus not an adequate substitute for regular education.
